In the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui has long attracted sun-seekers to the turquoise waters and sandy beaches of the country’s second-largest island. (Next door, the island of Ko Pha-ngan long ago established a reputation for Full Moon Parties—first among hippies before going mainstream.) Needless to say, the cat’s out of the bag about this beautiful corner of the world.
Hence the excitement over a new private island resort opening this month: Cape Fahn Hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, will be an all-villa escape off the northern coast of Koh Samui.
Here’s what to expect on this private island: Taking design inspiration from traditional Thai architecture, the 22 one- and two-bedroom villas come with sundecks and private plunge pools. There will be 24-hour room service so you can loll in your pool with a drink in hand. Cape Fahn also has an all-day dining venue called HUE and a gourmet “bistronomic” restaurant overseen by a Michelin-starred chef. Guests will be able to book an authentic Thai massage at the six-room spa, or try a variety of water sports.
Fun fact: Cape Fahn Hotel offers boat service, and you can even walk over to Choeng Mon beach on Koh Samui during low tide. (A narrow strait separates the two islands.)
