The Charleston Place announced it is transitioning from a Belmond property to a locally owned and managed independent luxury hotel. Beemok Hospitality Group, a Charleston, SC-based company with a growing portfolio of hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues, recently acquired the property and will lead a multi-year transformation to “reimagine” nearly all aspects of the hotel.
Throughout March, The Charleston Place will celebrate the move with a series of programs. Using the new logo (representing the bud of a giving tree) as inspiration, The Charleston Place has installed a large-scale sculpture of two hands cradling a life-size tree in the center of the lobby—also referencing the hotel’s new “Open Hands, Open Heart” philosophy. All are invited to be a part of the transition by writing their favorite memories from The Charleston Place on paper leaves, which will then be hung on the tree to make it “bloom” throughout the month.
Additionally, The Charleston Place has partnered with floral design studio SYG Designs to transform the lobby and public spaces by bringing the outdoors in. Locals and guests alike can join in on the celebration by shopping from the Haegur plant truck in the Market Street Circle March 4-6, or by partaking in the Abide A While Charleston plant workshop on March 26. Following the success of the hotel’s holiday and Valentine’s Day activations, guests and locals can expect to see new seasonal programming and installations throughout the year.
Long-term, The Charleston Place will undergo a $100-plus million renovation under the new ownership of Beemok Hospitality Group. The property has hired interior design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon (PYR), architecture firm Cooper Carry, the Charleston office of LS3P, a multi-disciplinary firm with expertise in historic preservation, and Rees Roberts + Partners, an interior and landscape design firm to lead the changes. Collectively, they will oversee the redesign of the lobby, courtyards, guestrooms and suites, spa and wellness center, restaurants and bars, retail, meeting and event spaces, and pool. The property expects to remain open during the renovation, which will be completed in phases with an estimated start in early 2023.
