And then there were five. LVMH is growing its ultra-luxe Cheval Blanc portfolio and with the upcoming spring opening of Cheval Blanc Paris— following Courchevel, the Maldives, St Barth’s, and St. Tropez— there will be a quintet of these maisons d’exception. The arrival of Cheval Blanc Paris has been years in the making. The former La Samaritaine department store, an Art Deco landmark on the Seine, has been undergoing a vast and ambitious renovation. Needless to say, this will be one of the hottest hotel openings of the year.
Interior designer Peter Marino has conceived the interiors like a polished, art-filled Parisian apartment, employing a team of expert artisans— marble workers, gilders, stone masons— to work on the project. Decorated with custom designed furniture, the 72 rooms and suites will have panoramic views. The crème de la crème? A private apartment kitted out with its own private spa, pool, and elevator.
The facilities will make it hard for luxury lovers to leave the hotel, despite the excellent location in the 1st arrondissement. There will be a spa, mosaic-lined swimming pool, the Carrousel for kids, and on the 7th floor, a landscaped rooftop terrace for basking in the Paris views. Cheval Blanc Paris will also be a place for destination dining. The gastronomic restaurant on the first floor will be overseen by Arnaud Donckele, who holds three Michelin stars at La Vague d’Or at Cheval Blanc St. Tropez. He was named chef of the year 2020 by Gault&Millau. You'll also find a contemporary brasserie, bar, pastry shop, and private dining experience called the Table de Partage.
