Planning family travel is one thing; getting family to enjoy traveling together is another. Hotel AWA says it has the fix for both scenarios: “E-Bike Explorations” of the gateway to Chilean Patagonia. Conceived to bring parents, grandparents and teenagers together, the new excursions offers a selection of well-plotted routes for cyclists of all abilities to enjoy.
Hotel AWA’s "E-Bike Explorations" are about more than bringing families together. True to the property’s mission of sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint, all e-bike routes and side activities have been designed to minimize the need for transfer vans for guests. Most routes depart directly from the property, and many round Lake Llanquihue, whose waters, shoreline and proximity to the Osorno Volcano are key to Hotel AWA’s identity.
The new E-Bike Explorations include:
Hotel AWA to Petrohué Falls & Todos Los Santos Lake – Travel along the shoreline of Lake Llanquihue to a viewpoint of Osorno Volcano, then pedal on to Petrohué Falls along the upper reach of the Petrohué River in Vincente Pérez Rosales National Park. Short walks, a boat trip on the lake and even rafting on the Petrohué River turn this exploration complete this full-day affair.
Ensenada to Las Cascadas – Head northeast through Vincente Pérez Rosales National Park and spend this exploration surrounded by native forest en route to the lakeside town of Las Cascadas, where a gentle hike leads to hidden waterfalls that drop 164 feet into the Blanco River. The longest zip line in Chile takes travelers flying through the forest canopy and over amazing landscapes. This tour includes a short van ride to Ensenada.
Hotel AWA to Puerto Varas – Discover the region’s beauty on one of its most popular cycling routes, past Playa Venado and around Lake Llanquihue for views of the snowy peak of Calbuco Volcano, more than 6,560 feet above sea level. The ride leads all the way to Puerto Varas, where guests can explore traditional German architecture. Optional activities include kayaking on a lagoon near the lake and guided horseback rides.
Hotel AWA to Puerto Octay – Following breakfast at AWA Restaurant, hop on an e-bike and head to Ensenada, with its views of Osorno Volcano, and a scenic break in Cascadas for waterfall-viewing and relaxing on the beach. Puerto Octay welcomes cyclists with southern Chilean charm, historic churches and German-influenced architecture.
Other cycling routes laid out by Hotel AWA for families and spirited travelers take in destinations including Pichijuan Hill (six miles), Colonia Río Sur (27 miles) and Osorno Volcano (41 miles), with departures straight from the property.
Everything guests need for "E-Bike Explorations" is available at Hotel AWA, including e-bike models for gravel, road and mountain biking. All models are sized for adults as well as children aged 12 to 14. While the hotel doesn’t stock E-bikes specifically for children, it does offer a child seat for a youngster that can be attached to an adult bike. Complimentary helmets, lights, backpacks, bike locks and tire repair tool kits are also available. Additionally, traditional bicycles are also available for guests. Age restrictions apply to side activities including kayaking, rafting, ziplining and horseback riding.
