The Chow Kit, an Ormond Hotel, is opening at the heart of Old Kuala Lumpur in October, becoming the brand's first boutique property in the region. Two further sites are set to launch in Melbourne and Dublin by 2022.
Artwork curated from private collections will be peppered throughout the public areas and guestrooms. All 113 guestrooms and suites will have plush beds, an open wardrobe and desk space, a smart TV, bespoke toiletries and a self-pick-up room service concept. The lobby will resemble a social parlor and will be saturated with deep, tufted banquets, lounge chairs and layered rugs.
The Chow Kit Kitchen will be the focal point of the hotel. The restaurant, located on the ground floor, is inspired by the local Malaysian kopitiams, traditional cafés. Open all-day, guests will be able to have an à la carte breakfast, an express lunch menu or family-style sharing plates derived from reimagined Malaysian favorites for dinner. The bar will offer signature cocktails from 11 a.m. to midnight and the venue will host guest chefs and mixologists from around the globe.
The Chow Kit’s rooftop has a dedicated yoga pavilion for weekly yoga and meditation sessions. Guests of The Chow Kit will also be able to build their own tours of the Chow Kit neighborhood by accessing a curated list of things to see, eat and do. In addition, the hotel will also offer themed walking food and culture tours.
The ground floor will also be home to The Library, a private, wallpapered space ideal for private dining parties, of up to 10 people, or small meetings. A large wood and marble table is added, along with other furniture. A mezzanine space will be located above the ground floor, which may be converted into additional meeting and event rooms. A glazed wall will overlook the lobby.
