Colombian Boutique Hotel Cannúa Scheduled to Open April 2019

Cannúa, a boutique hotel located within a protected forest in Antioquia, Colombia, announced it expects to open in April 2019. The 18-room mountainside property will be a 90-minute drive from the city of Medellín.

The hotel’s buildings have been constructed using sustainably-sourced bamboo and compressed-earth blocks, produced on-site from the property’s own soil. Cannúa will use rainwater from its own on-site water treatment system and will implement a waste management system with the goal of becoming a zero-waste property. The hotel will also plant two acres of organic gardens and food forests to supply its restaurants and will work with local organic farmers for any ingredients it cannot produce on-site.

"We want to show the world's travelers that there's more to Colombia than its cities - and that it's possible to develop a hotel in a way that is both environmentally and socially sustainable," said Nathan Rodgers, the CEO and co-founder of Cannúa.

Located on a 27-acre property, Cannúa will offer eight private cabanas and 10 rooms, all offering views of the Valle de San Nicolas. Guests will be able to choose from a variety of on- and off-site activities, including: hiking the pre-Hispanic heritage trails, going on exotic birdwatching trips, relaxing the hotel’s spa, visiting a community farm and taking a class in flower arranging with blooms provided by Cannúa’s onsite garden.
