Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences New Orleans and Chef Donald Link have announced the debut of Chemin à la Mer on November 26. Meaning “pathway to the sea” in French, Chemin à la Mer offers views of the Mississippi River while serving cuisine showcasing Chef Link’s Louisiana heritage and world travels.
The menu, showcasing an oyster bar, specialty steaks and Gulf seafood, is steeped in French tradition and subtly incorporates inspired flavors from the West Indies and neighboring regions. The restaurant will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Chef Link had John Alexander, a southern artist of naturalist paintings, create three new paintings and four hand-worked prints exclusively for the restaurant. Two mural-sized paintings, titled River Bottom Blues I and II, help set the tone of the main dining area, while Alexander’s new painting Purple Grackle, one he calls a “humble tribute” to his and Link’s friend, the late Julia Reed, anchors the bar.
Floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of the crescent bend for which the city is known, while the dining room interior is awash Oakwood walls, timbers, shiplap on the ceilings, and oak and walnut flooring juxtaposed against Scala marble found along the restaurant’s bar and tabletops. The chalkboard menu at the raw bar, indoor and outdoor plantings, and open floor plan to the pool area provide an inviting and familiar feel to guests. Outdoor seating on the deck offers open-air, panoramic views of the Mississippi River.
