The Dorchester has unveiled a first look at The Promenade and the new Artists’ Bar, ahead of the completion of the first phase of its most comprehensive transformation in over 30 years. The Promenade is set to return following a renovation by Pierre-Yves Rochon, and with a new, modern British menu overseen by culinary director Martyn Nail. The Promenade’s interiors showcase a fresh palette of colors inspired by the British landscape: Flanked by pillars along the depth of the space, white and soft sage green ceilings are finished with gold leaf accents.
An original collection of contemporary artworks by British artists will be revealed throughout The Promenade. The furnishings include cornered blue sofas, and flavescent yellow and deep pink chairs sitting around dark oak wood tables. This space also serves modern British menus at The Grill, three-Michelin starred French cuisine at Alain Ducasse and Cantonese dining at China Tang. Guests can enjoy breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners.
A new destination at the iconic hotel, Artists’ Bar will serve as an outlet for fun evenings of champagne, seafood and entertainment. Located towards the end of The Promenade, the interiors of Artists’ Bar have been designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon and have a mirrored ceiling, flanked by pillars along the length of the destination bar. The design includes powder blue seating dotted along the bar, circling a grand crystal chandelier, while signature patterned carpets swirl underfoot. The bar has its own Lalique crystal designs and Liberace’s mirrored piano, which has been meticulously restored.
An original collection of creations by artists working in Britain will be displayed throughout Artists’ Bar. The pieces are a celebration of London, mixing nature with urban landscapes, whilst portraying The Dorchester’s impact on the city and the famous figures associated with the hotel.
At Artists’ Bar, the inspiration for the artwork and for the signature cocktails is one and the same, with six signature cocktails named after each piece. Ingredients for the cocktails mirror the references and influences that each artist used to create their work.
Culinary Director Martyn Nail has curated a menu focusing on British-caught seafood to complement the cocktails and champagnes served at Artists’ Bar, with options including: a caviar selection, Irish rock and native oysters; potted shrimp, lobster cocktail and seabass ceviche; and a selection of sashimi and sushi.
The hotel will reveal its new interiors on the ground floor first, with the redesign of rooms and suites to be revealed in March 2023. The Dorchester remains open for guests throughout the renovation project.
