The Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection on Johns Island, SC, is now accepting reservations ahead of its opening on August 1. The resort is a 40-minute drive from downtown Charleston along the coast in the waterfront community of Kiawah River, a 2,000-acre community with 20 miles of waterfront, nature trails and marshlands.
The resort offers 72 cottage-style guestrooms and suites. To achieve the Lowcountry aesthetic in the rooms, wicker, wood and textured linen combined with white-washed tones, mint-green accents and honey oak floors were utilized. Outside, porches serve as a place for morning coffee or a nightcap with riverfront views. The suites are nearly double the size of the guestrooms and have large living rooms, dining nooks and soaking tubs that frame river views. Various suites and rooms can be combined to accommodate families and friends traveling together. The signature Sweetbay Suite with its wraparound porch, indoor fireplace and outdoor tub can also be booked as a private, two-bedroom cottage. The resort will also house 19 privately owned Dunlin-branded residences, which are set to debut for pre-sale this year.
Facilities include the Meeting House with its expansive porch; the Willet Room lounge bar; signature restaurant Linnette’s, offering river views; the riverfront pool; and the signature Aster Spa. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Linnette’s serves up wood-fired dishes from a seafood-forward menu. Iced tea, all-day bites, cocktails and rare whiskeys can be enjoyed at the Willet Room, the riverside lounge bar. Poolside dining can be enjoyed at The Cove, perfect for lunch classics and cocktails.
Inspired by the healing potential of Aster honey, sourced from local apiaries, the wellness menu at Aster Spa includes treatments by Biologique Recherche, full-body therapies and customized experiences. Hive-to-table treatments include nectar-infused facials, a Midnight Honey Oil Scrub & Warm Massage and Propolis Myofascial Release, while garden-inspired treatments incorporate local flowers and essences. Poetry in the Garden, Breathing for Beauty, Cooking with Flowers and The Romance of Teas and Tinctures are just a few of the workshops on offer. Daily fitness classes and a program of visiting specialists are also available.
Guests can enjoy a sports fishing adventure and enjoy the catch of the day at a chef-curated riverside picnic or get up close with wildlife during a water safari that explores Kiawah River’s protected estuary teeming with roseate spoonbills, great blue herons, sea turtles and dolphins. Boaters, kayakers and paddle boarders can explore the waters at any time of day with sunrise or full moon adventures. More than 20 miles of nature trails allow for biking and hiking through moss-covered oaks and pines via creeks, ponds and masses of golden marsh grasses along the water’s edge.
Guests can also learn new techniques in the resort’s fishing school or gain hands-on experience through clam harvesting workshops, cheese-making excursions to the local Goatery, and experiences on the heirloom cattle ranch. Resort programming includes communal seafood feasts, an annual summer kids’ club and more.
