Located on the Gulf of Papagayo on the northern Pacific coastline of Guanacaste, El Mangroove, Autograph Collection first opened in 2014. Now, following a six-month renovation, the all-suite retreat has unveiled 36 new suites, which increases the capacity of El Mangroove by one-third. The property, which rests on 17 acres of beachfront forest, is surrounded by mangroves.
The new suites blend seamlessly into the environment and include:
- Habitat Superior – Four airy suites with a king bed, a sofa bed in the living space, and a private terrace with a hammock surrounded by gardens.
- Root Deluxe/Superior – Four spacious suites that offer a king bed and a sofa bed in the living space. The Deluxe options include a furnished balcony, while the Superior suites have an outdoor terrace with hammock.
- Resort Suites – An enhanced version of the original Bark and Nesto Suites, the new Resort Suites have an integrated space design that offers both comfort and privacy, allowing families seeking connecting rooms to have comfortable direct access without additional doors. There are 16 Resort Suites with King beds and 12 with two Queen beds, one of which is wheelchair accessible.
Existing common areas at El Mangroove were also refreshed. The main attraction is the new family-friendly relaxation area, the SI&P Zone. It includes four pools, a children’s pool, a pool bar called El Shack, and four cabanas, each fronted by a lounge-bed platform that extends into the pool.
Malu, the new Mediterranean restaurant, serves dishes made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, with an emphasis on legumes, fruit, vegetables and seafood. Malu joins the property’s existing dining options: Makoko, which serves Costa Rican and international dishes; and the more casual Matiss. All resort restaurants serve food that traveled a minimum distance to ensure freshness and sustainability.
At the Bearth Spa, guests can relax with therapies that incorporate healing local ingredients offered in terraces amid the mangroves.
El Mangroove is the ideal base from which to explore the region, besides enjoying eco-adventure activities. Guests can head to the beach to swim, fish, snorkel or take to a sunset cruise on the Pacific. Off-site attractions include the Santa Rosa National Park, part of the Área de Conservación Guanacaste (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), where visitors can spot dolphins, turtles and manta rays.
