The Place des Vosges in Paris was originally conceived by King Henri IV as a royal square, its elegant arcades and symmetrical brick houses inaugurated in 1612 to celebrate the engagement of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria. As befits such a regal retreat, today the Place des Vosges is a fashionable hang-out in the Marais district. It’s here where Evok Hotels, fresh from opening Sinner nearby in the third arrondissement, has just debuted its latest property. Cour des Vosges occupies a hôtel particulier, or nobleman’s mansion, that’s a classified historic site situated at 19 Place des Vosges.
There are just 12 rooms and suites, designed by Lecoadic-Scotto as Parisian apartments mixing 1970s glam with heritage details (like 17th-century timber beams, painted wood ceilings and terra cotta floor tiles). Decor touches include four-poster beds, candelabra lamps and tapestries. The rooms are being marketed not just as hotel overnights, but also as ideal for extended stays, like your own Parisian pied-à-terre. Indeed some of the rooms have kitchenettes for in-room cooking and dining. All have views over the beautiful leafy square.
On the ground floor of Cour des Vosges you’ll find a tea room, with terrace, for light bites and the “Brach - La Patisserie corner,” featuring sweets by pastry chef Yann Brys, named Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2011. There are also Roman-style baths on the premises. This is the fourth hotel in Evok’s portfolio in Paris, which also includes the Nolinski, Brach and Sinner. Evok’s mission is to “create luxury properties that resonate with the spirit of their surroundings.”
