Beverly Hills is synonymous on the world stage for celebrities, shopping and eye-popping luxury hotels. In Part Two of a three-part series on Beverly Hills (see Part One here), Luxury Travel Advisor continues its look at how elegance continues to evolve in the city’s renowned hotels.
The Maybourne Beverly Hills
Transformation is underway at The Maybourne Beverly Hills. The former Montage Beverly Hills was purchased by the Maybourne Hotel Group from the U.K. in August 2020. (That venerable concern currently operates three of London's most legendary and prestigious hotels: Claridge's, The Connaught and The Berkeley.) The Maybourne Beverly Hills, in the heart of the city’s “Golden Triangle” of shopping, dining and businesses, is the first international property for the Maybourne Hotel Group.
With a goal of combining British sensibilities with California style, The Maybourne Beverly Hills is excelling in its mission. Eugene Leonard, a veteran of all three London hotels, was brought in as general manager of the property. Rooms and suites are currently being updated with a light, sleek and artistic design. October is the projected completion date, so take note when booking clients.
Familiar elements of the hotel have been refreshed, as well. Imported olive trees now grace the rooftop pool that offers views of the Hollywood Hills, and new services await at the largest spa in Beverly Hills. The al fresco garden restaurant, The Terrace, has expanded into adjacent Beverly Canon Gardens. Its white parasols, arbors of lemon trees and fairy lights are a popular backdrop for lunch, dinner and people-watching. On track to open this fall is The Maybourne Bar—a new establishment off the lobby, designed by Andre Fu—as well as indoor portion of The Maybourne Café (it's currently operating outdoors); the hotel is hoping for an October completion. Lastly, Ysabel Beverly Hills, in partnership with the hip restaurant Ysabel in West Hollywood, will be going into the rooftop space that was formerly the Grill and the conservancy is being renovated, as well.
The Peninsula Beverly Hills
Tucked away discreetly on the edges of a residential neighborhood, The Peninsula Beverly Hills exudes an elegant energy. Clients are attracted by the hotel’s relative seclusion and the renowned Peninsula name, as well as its walking distance proximity to marquee shopping and dining. Signature touches, such as monogrammed pillowcases for each room and guest, are another distinction. The hotel will arrange for airport greeters to pick up guests, as well as relay room service orders en route. The property’s main dining venue, The Belvedere, was pared back to “Le Petite Belvedere” during 2020. It has now returned with as a California-style brasserie that offers a sumptuous weekend brunch, should clients want to indulge. Afternoon Tea is a Peninsula tradition around the world, and Beverly Hills carries the standard perfectly every weekend. For clients celebrating a romantic occasion, dining in one of the poolside cabanas is a service created out of necessity during the pandemic. It has now taken on a life of its own.
Viceroy L’Ermitage Beverly Hills
For those who don’t necessarily want to see and be seen, the Viceroy L’Ermitage is the stay of choice. In fact, it perfected several programs during the pandemic for those interested in remaining low key. (Locally, it is a favorite recovery hideout after plastic surgery.) Located along the median-lined Burton Way on the edge of the city, Viceroy L’Ermitage Beverly Hills offers privacy wrapped around a discreet but luxurious setting. An in-house Le Clefs d’Or-led concierge team is available to help clients curate bespoke Beverly Hills shopping experiences, with personalized appointments. (Pretty cool: Suites feature runway-like dressing rooms with three-way mirrors, for trying on any purchases.) If clients are jazz aficionados, the hotel has a Library Jazz & French 75 Cocktail Series each Friday night through the end of September.
Mr. C Beverly Hills
The “C” of Mr. C Beverly Hills stands for Cipriani, the vaunted Italian family with four generations of expertise in the luxury hospitality business. The hotel’s ambiance is modern yet classic—and very European. Italian hospitality springs forward at check-in, when guests receive a welcome signature Bellini cocktail. The hotel marked its 10th anniversary in the summer of 2021 with updates to its pool cabanas, day beds and other amenities. The popular Private Residences have two beds, three baths, contemporary design and views of the Hollywood Hills. Another big draw is The Restaurant at Mr. C, featuring traditional Cipriani dishes such as Carpaccio and baked tagliolini.
Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills
The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills is the town’s top hotel for press junkets. Clients are likely to see Hollywood superstars and superheroes in the elevator. The hotel has also distinguished itself in the health and wellness arena. It has established partnerships with Alo Yoga, Deepak Chopra and Peloton bikes. In addition to a new Wellness floor, full of WELL guestrooms, the hotel is the first in the U.S. to earn the Well Building Certification. A new fitness studio, along with a robust program of initiatives make the hotel a top choice for clients interested in staying in shape while vacationing. The new Culina Ristorante + Caffè helmed by newly appointed Chef de Cuisine Giovanni Spataro, offers traditional (and some healthy) indulgences.
SIXTY Beverly Hills
The busy boutique that is SIXTY Beverly Hills is located on bustling Wilshire Boulevard, where it intersects the "Golden Triangle." The shops, restaurants and bars of Rodeo Drive and environs are a short distance away, yet the hotel maintains an aura of a high-end spa, with its understated décor of sandstone, marble and hardwoods. The property’s calling card is its rooftop pool and terrace, with panoramic views from downtown L.A. to the Hollywood Hills. Newly launched is the Umbrella Club at SIXTY BH, touted as the city’s only rooftop al fresco bar and dining venue within walking distance from Rodeo Drive. It has become a popular evening hot spot, so make sure clients understand that the hotel is buzzing at night.
