Over the last few years, Oman has steadily positioned itself as an exciting destination for luxury travelers, with solid investments in tourism infrastructure including a brand-new airport in Muscat. It’s not just the stunning beaches and mountains that are appealing to travelers, but the country’s authentic cultural traditions in a peaceful haven in the Middle East have made their mark. The Sultanate’s capital city has a variety of luxury hotel accommodations, with some exciting new projects in the pipeline.
Case in point: Mandarin Oriental has recently announced it will manage a new resort and branded residences in Muscat. Slated to open in 2021, the Mandarin Oriental, Muscat will be situated on the beach in a central city district—a 20-minute drive from the airport. The hotel will be designed in a low-rise architectural style with 150 guestrooms and suites, many of which will offer views of the Arabian Sea. Facilities will include an outdoor pool, a Spa at Mandarin Oriental, banqueting/event space and five restaurants and bars.
In other news for the luxury hotel brand, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is opening a new spa as part of its large-scale renovation, and a second London hotel will be opening in 2021. Pink Sands Club, Canouan will be rebranded Mandarin Oriental, Canouan this summer. And in Madrid, the Hotel Ritz is currently closed for an extensive makeover. Mandarin Oriental currently operates 31 hotels and eight residences in 21 countries.
