Fairmont Rio Strengthens Position in Rio de Janeiro’s Events Market

Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana has announced the expansion of its foyer as part of a strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in the events segment, following the growth and increasing sophistication of the MICE market (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) in Brazil, and particularly in Rio de Janeiro.

With 2,808 square meters dedicated to events, the hotel will offer, starting in the second half of the year, even greater space, versatility and comfort, consolidating its position as one of the city’s leading destinations for corporate and social gatherings. The new area has been designed to accommodate everything from strategic meetings and brand activations to congresses, diplomatic gatherings and large-scale celebrations.

The foyer expansion responds to a strong upward trend in the sector. According to data from the DataEventos platform, demand for corporate events increased by 15.96 percent between January and May 2025, reflecting the renewed importance of in-person gatherings as strategic tools for relationship-building, business generation and institutional strengthening. Within this context, Rio de Janeiro stands out as the national leader, accounting for more than 16.4 percent of all corporate events held in Brazil, ahead of states such as São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

The city has also established itself as a major international hub for congresses and conventions. According to data from the International Congress and Convention Association, Rio consistently ranks among Latin America’s top destinations for global events.

The new foyer layout was conceived to ensure greater flexibility in room configurations, creating a seamless and highly functional experience. The concept is designed to accommodate a wide range of event formats, with adaptable solutions aligned with the sector’s contemporary demands.

“The expansion of our foyer directly responds to the growing demand for corporate events and the increasing value of in-person gatherings as strategic tools for connection, business generation and social celebrations. Rio de Janeiro is experiencing a very positive moment, consolidating itself as a national leader and gaining even greater relevance on the international stage. At Fairmont, we strive to anticipate these transformations by offering a combination of privileged location, outstanding infrastructure and a breathtaking view fully integrated with nature. Another key differentiator is our gastronomy, with event menus signed by our executive chef, Jerome Dardillac, Michelin-recommended. More than simply expanding a space, we are elevating the events experience by creating environments that inspire connections, meaningful content and memorable moments,” said Netto Moreira, general manager of Accor’s luxury cluster.

With the new project, the hotel will also expand its capacity to host events from Rio’s social calendar, such as the Baile de Máscaras and New Year’s Eve celebrations. The project bears the signature of architect Patricia Anastassiadis’ studio, ensuring the continuity of the aesthetic identity and design vision of Fairmont Rio de Janeiro Copacabana.
