There’s a lot to love about the Mediterranean isle of Mallorca. Fringed with white sandy beaches, the largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands has dramatic mountains (like the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana) and pretty countryside blanketed in vineyards and olive groves. And for hotel lovers, there’s another reason to add Mallorca to your travel wish list. A bumper crop of new, design-driven boutique hotels is altering the accommodations landscape—both in the atmospheric Old Town of Palma, and also in the hinterlands.
The latest to cross our radar is Finca Serena, an 100-acre estate slated to open in spring 2019 with 25 guestrooms and suites. Originally a farm, Finca Serena is landscaped with lemon trees, olives, fruit orchards and newly planted grapevines. Three different vegetable gardens will supply the Restaurant Jacaranda with fresh produce. Here, chef Cristian Peguero will interpret traditional recipes in a modern style, changing the menu daily based on the availability of fresh products. The restaurant offers panoramic views over the countryside, and it will also be possible to dine outside on the pool-facing terrace.
Finca Serena will also have a dedicated wellbeing space complete with an indoor pool, sauna, hammam and fitness center with Technogym equipment. Private yoga classes will be available, along with spa treatments by Natura Bissé. Booking tips: The rooms are spread out throughout the estate, some in original farm outbuildings and some equipped with private terraces and verandahs. There’s a suite with a private pool, and also a stand-alone luxury villa for those traveling with an entourage. Finca Serena is located in the central part of the island near the town of Montuiri.
