Downton Abbey, a British TV program reveled for its historical drama, is getting a big screen adaptation this year. In anticipation of the upcoming film, Hotel Café Royal is offering the "Royal Package."
The program offers guests two nights in one of Hotel Café Royal’s suites, along with two activity-filled days. First, travelers will tour the Highclere Castle—the main setting of Downton Abbey, home of the Crawley family. Guests will be taken around in their own private Rolls Royce or helicopter for the day and will return to Hotel Café Royal for a cup of afternoon tea with a bottle of champagne at the property’s Oscar Wilde Lounge.
The next day, travelers will embark on a chauffeur-driven tour of Mayfair of British institutions Burberry, Fortnum & Mason, Prestat and Penhaligon’s. Each holds the London Royal Warrant and are approved suppliers to the British royal family.
For a change of pace, St James’ Park, next to Buckingham Palace, will be available to enjoy a Butler’s picnic and champagne in the grounds of Marlborough House, the birthplace of King George V, who may be a character in the upcoming film. That evening, guests can attend a private cocktail masterclass at Hotel Café Royal’s Green Bar where they will learn how to make vintage drinks.
At the end of the package, guests will learn how to behave in an Edwardian way: Topics include making conversation and the correct handling of flatware.
The Royal Package also includes a copy of Downton Abbey cookbook and cocktail book, daily breakfast and a complimentary mini-bar (excluding alcohol).
The Aristocracy Package
Guests booking the Aristocracy Package can enjoy a two-night stay in one of Hotel Café Royal’s Grand Deluxe Guestrooms, private transfer and tour of Highclere Castle, Royal Warrant Shopping, afternoon tea in the Oscar Wilde Lounge, daily breakfast, and a copy of the Downton Abbey cookbook and cocktail book to take home.
In other Hotel Café Royal news, a David Bowie-inspired bar is now open as a tribute to the late Rockstar. He threw a retirement party at the hotel to abandon his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust.
