Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina

The open-air lobby sets the tone for aquatic adventures at the resort.

Dive aficionados have a new reason to visit Curaçao: The Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina is scheduled to open in March 2010 along a natural harbor known as Spanish Water, 25 minutes from Willemstad.  Set within Santa Barbara Plantation, a 1,500-acre luxury resort community, the hotel will have water views on three sides, giving 90 percent of the rooms a view of the turquoise sea.

Divers take note: The resort will be partnering with Ocean Encounters, a popular company on the island for snorkeling, diving and scuba diving excursions to one of Curaçao’s 60 dive spots. The company will oversee all aspects of aquatic excursions, including boat dives, gear rental, dive instruction, guided shore dives, snorkeling and other water sports. Nice feature: While other diving programs require lengthy boat rides to the dive spots, Curaçao’s are right off shore, making the trips easy and immediate.

We’ve reviewed the accommodations lineup and we’re thinking The Bungalow Suites and Bungalow rooms sound pretty swell; they’ll have a terrace before the entrance to the rooms.  Plus, one of the resort’s three pools is nearby, creating an enclave of sorts.

Traveling with a family of little divers?  The “Double/Double” two-bedroom suite  will likely work best for families. There are also 12 accessible rooms.

This is a true Hyatt resort in the making: A four-room Pure spa (including one room for couples), a 24-hour Hyatt Stay Fit fitness center, Camp Hyatt, dive and water sport facility and an 18-hole Pete Dye designed championship golf course round out the amenities that are being developed.

Reservations are now being accepted. Questions? Contact General Manager Diego Concha (diego.concha@hyatt.com) or Rooms Executive Joel Bunde (joel.bunde@hyatt.com) with specific requests.
