Vivanta Kathmandu opened this week, marking the Indian Hotels Company Limited’s second location in Nepal and the first for its Vivanta brand. Following up Meghauli Serai, a Taj Safaris Lodge in Chitwan National Park, the new property offers 110 rooms and an assortment of amenities and food offerings.
Located in the UNESCO World Heritage site Patan Darbar Square, the hotel sits in Kathmandu’s Jhamsikhel district. Guests looking for something to eat can head to the property’s pan Asian restaurant Akari, the rooftop Koko Bar or Mynt, an all-day diner serving local Newari dishes. Amenities at Vivanta Kathmandu include a fitness center, a temperature-controlled swimming pool, a spa and concierge services.
The hotel organizes a variety of activities. Just a 20-minute drive away, guests can head to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park and take a three-hour hike to Jamacho peak. At Chitwan National Park in the Terai Lowland a little over 90 miles away, visitors can go on guided walking safaris. Closer to the hotel, guests can visit a Newar home in Kathmandu where they can watch and help a host family cook a Newari meal.
Incorporated by the founder of Tata Group, Jamsetji Tata, the Indian Hotels Company Limited opened its first hotel, The Taj Mahal Palace, in 1903 in Bombay. Today, the south Asian hospitality company operates 170 hotels, 25 of which are currently under development, across four continents, 12 countries and more than 80 locations. Its brands include Taj, Vivanta and Ginger.
