InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping is the first hotel to open as part of a strategic partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Thailand’s real-estate group, Asset World Corporation (AWC). The property will open its doors in mid-2023. The former Imperial Mae Ping Hotel, rebranded as InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping, is located near iconic landmarks. These include the city’s walking streets, the buzzing night bazaar and the historic Tha-Pae Gate dating to the 13th century.
When the first phase of renovations is completed, the hotel will have 240 rooms and suites overlooking the alleyways of the old city or the Doi Suthep mountain. The guestrooms will include spacious bathrooms with a plunge bathtub and separate shower.
Food and beverage offerings at InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping are designed to help guests discover northern Thailand’s flavors. The hotel will have a rooftop bar, a lobby lounge and a market-themed all-day-dining venue, among other options. The hotel will also offer a collection of event venues, including a grand ballroom and a lawn that encloses Wat Chang Kong, a 600-year-old stupa nestled in the shade of a centuries-old tree. The space is ideal for both public and private events.
InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping will offer various ways to explore regional crafts and contemporary artworks created by the community of artists living and working in Chiang Mai. A range of children’s activities will also be available via the brand’s signature “Planet Trekkers” program. The hotel will also curate bespoke culture-centric activities, including traditional toy- and umbrella-making classes, and pottery workshops.
