The InterContinental Hong Kong hotel is planning to close for a major renovation in the first quarter of 2019.
The entire renovation is expected to take from 12 to 16 months, as all of the guestrooms and suites, bathrooms, public areas, restaurants and event venues will be redone. This includes a redesign of the building façade with a “new, contemporary look,” according to a written release.
The hotel’s two-Michelin star Cantonese restaurant, Yan Toh Heen, will remain open for dinner throughout the renovation, while the other restaurants and event venues are anticipated to reopen in the evenings starting in the late summer of 2019.
Tokyo-based studio Curiosity Inc., founded by lead designer Gwenael Nicolas, has been in charge of the hotel’s guest rooms, suites and lobby redesign and transformation processes. The studio has also aided famous clients such as Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Berluti, among others.
In 2015, Gaw Capital Partners led the acquisition of InterContinental Hong Kong on behalf of a consortium of investors, including Pioneer Global Group.
In other InterContinental news, a new hotel is slated to open in Singapore this October, the largest InterContinenal in the U.S. opened in Los Angeles earlier this summer, and Washington D.C.'s newest neighborhood, The Wharf, will be welcoming a new InterContinental this October.
