Jumeirah Vittaveli in the Maldives is celebrating Swarna’s second anniversary with the “Gold at Swarna” 15-course menu—the most expensive Indian menu in the world, according to the hotel—priced at $2,000.
This award-winning signature experience offers diners an opulent evening of royal treatment, with edible gold as an essential ingredient in each dish as an homage to the restaurant’s name, which translates to “gold” in Sanskrit.
The “Gold at Swarna” experience begins at the guest’s villa where they will be picked up by a darban, a gold buggy with a royal escort. Guests then arrive at a cabana where they have the chance to don traditional Indian attire.
For each dish, which includes Blood Orange Soup with gold-coated Himalayan pink salt and rose gold-coated Lamb Patty served over bread touched with gold, Chef de Cuisine Bharat Kapoor explains to guests how he came to choose the specific combination of flavors. “Authenticity is key,” says Kapoor. ”You can’t get truly Indian flavors if you use international ingredients.”
Since its opening two years ago, Swarna has won “Best Indian Cuisine in Asia” twice, by World Luxury Restaurant Awards.
Jumeirah Vittaveli offers romantic escapes with a variety of land- and water-based activities, including a PADI Dive base, water sports center, four restaurants, and two bars. The resort is just a 20-minute boat ride from Malé International Airport.
