Dorchester Collection has unveiled “Rodin – Love and Torment,” the next in its Legendary Artists’ series of bespoke private walking trails at Le Meurice, Paris. In addition to the “Picasso’s Montmartre” trail and “Monet – Revolutionary Brushstrokes,” guests at the hotel can discover the story of love and torment that shaped the art of Auguste Rodin. The recent launch of the “Rodin – Love and Torment” trail offers guests a romantic glimpse into a little-known aspect of the life and career of the “Father of Modern Sculpture.”
The guided adventure begins with a stroll through the Tuileries Garden on the doorstep of Le Meurice, where a life-size cast of Rodin’s famous “The Kiss” can be admired in a corner en route to the Musée Rodin and its sculpture garden.
Guests will uncover not only the strength of personality and obsessive perfectionism that led Rodin to rise to success even after being rejected from art school three times, but how his secret affair with his student Camille Claudel transformed both the subject matter he chose to sculpt and his manner of doing so before ultimately ending in tragedy.
With lively dialogue, one-on-one or as part of small, private groups, guests will be able to pause and enjoy the beauty of Paris as well as absorb thrilling anecdotes about the artist’s life and career. The tour includes:
- One-night stay in a room or suite for two people
- American breakfast, including Cédric Grolet pastries
- Two-hour expert guided tour
- Two tickets to Musée Rodin
Each itinerary will be adapted to the individual guest or group, so that the trails are able to cater for both intrepid explorers who wish to prolong the trail and discover public commissions scattered throughout the city refine their knowledge, and novices who may have visited Paris before but never delved deeper.
Trails at other Dorchester Collection hotels include “Caravaggio – Rebel and Rome,” available at Hotel Eden, Rome; “Hepworth – Rhythm & Form” available at 45 Park Lane, London; and “Fontana - Slashing Space” available from summer 2023 at Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan.
