Les Lumières Versailles has opened its doors to welcome guests. A 17th-century mansion that was once a family home, the boutique hotel has undergone a restoration project. Located just steps from the Château de Versailles, it was recently inducted into Relais & Châteaux.
The historic property was given to Édouard Colbert and Antoine III de Gramont by Louis the XIV. Located on the Gramont and Villacerf pavilions, which date from the 17th and 19th centuries, the mansion was once known as the Hôtel du France. According to Delphine Jaouen, CEO of 2L Collection, the parent company of the hotel, the property "pays homage to the Enlightenment era."
Guests of Les Lumières Versailles can expect 31 rooms and suites, each with patterned textiles, gilded moldings, weighted blankets, thought journals, meditation boxes and more. Central to Les Lumières is the Library, a space for reflection. Fundamental texts displayed on easels serve as reminders of the Enlightenment’s legacy—the United States’ “Declaration of Independence,” the “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen” and the “Declaration of the Rights of Woman and the Female Citizen.” This is intended to encourage guests to reflect on historical challenges and appreciate their impact.
Dining venues at Les Lumières include on-site café Le Café Pierre Hermé Paris, which offers a sweet and savory menu showcasing pastries, viennoiseries, artisanal bread, coffee and tea; the Pierre Hermé Boutique, serving signature products such as pastries and macarons; Le Bar des Philosophes, offering cocktails and light bites; and La Table des Lumières, helmed by Chef Erwan Le Thomas, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, which serves seasonal, predominantly plant-based cuisine showcasing local produce, and follows zero waste principles.
In addition, the hotel’s spa comprises two treatment cabins, a hammam, sauna, fitness room, pressotherapy, a Dream Machine for self-hypnosis, a tearoom and relaxation areas. The Salon of Madame Geoffrin, meanwhile, is designed to host a range of events, including family gatherings, business dinners, meditation and yoga sessions, and more.
The hotel offers a range of onsite and off-site excursions across four key themes: “Rejuvenate,” “Inspire,” “Connect” and “Engage,” through meetings, tastings, experiences and workshops. Guests can also enjoy contemplative walks around the castle grounds, attend opera performances and equestrian shows or go on horse rides through the castle gardens.
