This December, travelers are invited to spend the holidays at the Botswanan hideaway, The Lodge at Feline Fields. Feline Fields allows an escape to the wilderness for a unique Christmas and New Year stay in one of six luxury suites in an area of the Kalahari previously untouched by tourism.
The festive period starts with a one-of-a-kind safari activity, as guests head out on a Christmas Eve game drive with an expert guide to track brown hyena. Guests can discover one of the rarest species of hyena, with their den found close to the Lodge. On Christmas Day, guests can give back to the local community and support those less fortunate by delivering gifts to the Bushmen children. In the evening, sit around a camp fire for a cultural exchange with the Bushmen, sharing details of their life.
On New Year’s Eve, guests can enjoy evening entertainment at the Lodge, complete with a local band. A candlelit deck and a special menu devised using locally sourced ingredients with a European flavor will be the setting for dinner. Spend New Year’s Day with an al fresco picnic lunch in the surroundings of the Okavango Delta at Tubu, in front of a pool frequently visited by the local hippos.
Back at The Lodge, travelers can cool off from the heat in the lap pool, unwind from the year’s stress with a massage or take a break from the festive indulgence with a game of tennis on the court crafted from old termite mounds. Other activities on offer include a walking or horse-back safari and special ‘fat’ bicycles, adapted for use on sand, which are parked outside each suite to explore the Kalahari accompanied by an experienced guide.
Nightly rates include return road transfers, all meals and drinks (excluding champagne and French wines), all game drives, a visit to Kaure Bushmen Camp, laundry service, VAT and a €30 donation to the Feline Fields Trust. Children under 15 years old can stay in addition from $270 per child, per night.
