One Aldwych, located in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, has announced two new additions to its “Curator Program:” Royal silhouette artist Charles Burns and exhibition curator Victoria Broackes. The program offers insider experiences that reveal the lesser-known side of the hotel’s Covent Garden backyard.
Those interested in the ancient English art of silhouettes will be guided around the neighborhood by silhouette artist Charles Burns. With a career that began as a street artist in Covent Garden, just steps away from the hotel, Burns swiftly established himself in the world of silhouette artistry. Since those humble beginnings, he has become a well-known figure, and even crafted the silhouette portraits of Queen Elizabeth II on three occasions.
Victoria Broackes is an expert curator, having worked on multiple exhibitions leading to her current role as director of the London Design Biennale. She is best known for co-curating “David Bowie Is,” the fastest-selling and most visited exhibition in the history of the V&A Museum. One Aldwych guests will have the opportunity to embark on enlightening walking tours with Broackes. From exploring the nearby Somerset House’s latest gallery exhibitions and the vibrant West End and Theatreland, to delving into the world of pop music or revisiting the city in 1600, guests can choose from an array of themes.
These new curators are accompanied by existing partnerships with Sylvia Melchoir, director of Covent Garden’s Donmar Warehouse; and writer, historian and broadcaster, Dr. Matthew Green, who leads private history tours across the city, including the new addition of a tour along the Thames River.
One Aldwych’s curators can also be booked for fully tailored, hands-on experiences.
