From now until September 2, Swiss Alpine village in the Bernese Oberland will be home to the 61st edition of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, a celebration of classical music.
And in honor of the festival, luxury hotel The Alpina Gstaad is offering a two-day two-person "Menuhin Festival in Motion" package that includes two tickets to a performance, accommodations for two nights in a Deluxe Room with breakfast, transfers and a culinary credit for CHF1,750 (approximately $1,818).
The hotel is home to three restaurants: Restaurant Sommet, a Michelin-starred restaurant with contemporary cuisine; MEGU, a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant, and a traditional Swiss stübli. There is also a bar and lounge, wine-tasting room, private cinema, cigar lounge, a ballroom and several boardrooms. Each of the 56 rooms and suites include balconies.
This year’s theme is "Pomp in Music," highlighting music for celebrations and commemorations. Jaap van Zweden, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra's new director, will make his debut August 19. He was also recently appointed musical director for 2017-2018 seasons for the New York Philharmonic.
There will be around 70 concerts during the festival including shows with renowned stars like mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, soprano Diana Damrau and violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. Performances will be held in both the Festival Tent and in several 13th and 14th century churches in the surrounding Sannenland.

- Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes with violinist Christian Tetzlaff: Violin sonatas by Mozart, Shostakovich, Ravel in Zweisimmen Church – 8/4
- Verdi’s opera “Aida” with the London Symphony Orchestra, Gianandrea Noseda conducting and soloists Francesco Meli and Erwin Schrott – 9/1
