Quickly making a name for itself as a gastronomic capital of the world, Lima, Peru has become a destination of its own, and is no longer just a pit stop. Whatever your reason for visiting Peru, consider a stay at the recently renovated Country Club Lima Hotel, which Signature Travel Network EVP Ignacio Maza suggested in his Just Back report in our November issue.
The 90-year-old hotel is the only historic luxury accommodation in the city (it was even named a national monument). It also offers a different vibe than the other luxury offerings in the city as it has only 83 unique rooms and suites, each of which were refurbished over summer and completed by fall. Francisco Lopez Bustos (Teatro Colón, Llao Llao Hotel, Alvear Palace Hotel) was responsible for the redesign. His task was to bring the rooms into the 21st century while maintaining its history. Our favorite? The murals by Peruvian artists Gihan Tubbeh above the beds. Art buffs will love the over 300 pieces of art throughout the property, with at least one piece on display in each room. Good to know: Some guestrooms have hard wood floors while others have carpet. Have a preference? Just ask.
Perroquet is an award-winning restaurant that serves authentic Peruvian as well as international cuisine.
Perroquet, the award-winning signature restaurant, was also renovated. Take our word for it: Order the ceviche and a Pisco Sour for an authentic Peruvian meal. If you’re a fan of Peru’s famous cocktail, head to English Bar where the bartender can lead classes on making the perfect Pisco Sour. Perroquet Executive Chef Jacinto Sanchez will also be more than happy to take guests to tour one of Lima’s food markets. We were told a regular particularly enjoys organic eggs, and he makes sure to stop at the market each time she visits.
The property is also located adjacent the Lima Golf Club, to which hotel guests have access. If you’re golfing, take note that Lima doesn’t have any public courses.
And for travelers who are using Lima as a stop en route to Cusco and Machu Picchu, Country Club Lima Hotel offers a high altitude welcome package to help guests acclimate. Another popular trip from Lima is a one-night visit to Nazca, home to the 2,000-year-old Nazca Lines. The hotel will arrange transportation, lunch in town, dune buggy rides, a dinner picnic and a stay at a nearby hotel.
