Mama Shelter to Open First Property in Serbia

Mama Shelter will be opening its first location in Serbia in early 2018. Located in the country’s capital, Mama Shelter Belgrade will be located along Ulica Knez Mihailova ("Prince Michael Street")—the iconic pedestrian promenade.

The property will be decorated with design elements specially crafted by Jalil Amor and pays homage to the capital’s Ottoman history with richly women kilim rugs on the floors, vintage prints, and sofas that rework the eastern bloc aesthetic.

There will be 125 rooms on the property. Additionally, a 5,000-square-foot terrace will provide views of The White City’s citadels and concrete towers. The restaurant will offer a variety of options from homemade sorbets and ice creams to wood-fired pizzas. Guests will dine on long tables designed to encourage socializing. The lounge will provide a space for both travelers and locals to hang out and listen to live music with a cocktail.

Mama Shelter Belgrade will be one of two new Mama properties in Eastern Europe, with Mama Shelter Prague also set to open in early 2018.

Mama Shelter launched in 2008 with the idea that the founders would only open properties in cities and neighborhoods they loved and that had a unique story. Currently, there are properties in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles (the first Mama property that opened in in U.S.), and Rio de Janerio. Properties are planned for Toulouse, Lille, Prague, Dubai, and Paris Porte de Versailles.
