Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group will manage a new resort set to open on a private island in the Maldives in 2025. The resort, which is under development, will stretch across three private islands on Bolidhuffaru Reef in South Male Atoll. It will be accessible via a 20-minute speedboat ride from Male’s Velana International Airport. Surrounded by white sand beaches and coral reefs for which the Maldives is known, the resort will offer a range of activities, including wellness experiences and water sports.
The accommodations comprise 120 stand-alone villas, made up of 56 overwater villas and 64 beachfront villas, including 10 branded Residences at Mandarin Oriental. Ranging in size from 2,152 to 10,764 square feet, each of the villas will provide seclusion, private pools and ocean views. The group is working with several international consultants with a focus on sustainability throughout all stages of the development.
The resort will also have six dining outlets, including three specialty restaurants and a sunset bar. There will also be indoor and outdoor event spaces for meetings, social gatherings and weddings. Wellness facilities will be located in the resort’s tropical gardens, and will include 12 treatment suites, vitality pools, a beauty salon, and sauna and steam rooms. Mandarin Oriental’s team of wellness practitioners will offer customized experiences besides the group’s signature treatments.
Additional leisure activities will include a water sports and dive center, tennis courts, a kids’ and teens’ club, a swimming pool and several private coves and beaches to explore. The 34-hectare site is being developed by DAMAC Properties, part of Dubai-based DAMAC Group.
