Last year, Mandarin Oriental, Milan launched a Ferrari self-drive experience to the shores of Lake Como, complete with a three-hour boat ride in a classic Riva speedboat. (Champagne and canapés, anyone?) And now, for glamor-seeking Lake Como fans, the Hong Kong-based hotel group is taking it up a notch with a new resort offering. Today, Mandarin Oriental announced that it has taken over management of the CastaDiva Resort, a five-star lakeside bolthole located in the pretty village of Blevio, a stone’s throw from downtown Como. Most of the 76 rooms, including 58 suites, have views on Lake Como from private balconies or terraces.
Following a renovation, which will be completed in spring 2019, the resort will be rebranded as Mandarin Oriental, Lake Como. It’s housed in nine historic villas dating from the 19th century, and surrounded by lush parkland. Top tip: Two of the villas will be available for exclusive private rentals—meaning you can book a George Clooney-worthy retreat for a group of friends or family. Facilities include a spa, indoor swimming pool, outdoor floating pool on the lake, and four restaurants and bars, including an al fresco terrace overlooking the lake. There will also be lots of meeting and event space (we hear wedding bells).
CastaDiva Resort & Spa was acquired by Attestor Capital LLP in 2017. Providing a complementary experience to the Milan city hotel, this will be Mandarin Oriental’s first resort in western Europe. The group now operates 32 hotels and eight residences in 21 countries and territories.
