Whether you’re in London on business or leisure, a new service at DUKES has been launched to make it easier for solo female travelers. These Duchess Rooms have been developed in order to fill a gap in the marketplace in the traditional “gentlemen’s club” quarter of Mayfair. Indeed, the DUKES Collection managing director Debrah Dhugga is one of the few female MDs of a five-star hotel group in Europe, and she personally understands the needs of frequent female business travelers. (Notably, she also founded the Leading Ladies of London Networking Club.)
Here’s what to expect. A female room attendant escorts guests to their rooms and handles room service and housekeeping. Additional touches include a personal welcome card from Dhugga; fresh flowers and complimentary fruit bowl; female amenities in the bathroom; an array of glossy lifestyle magazines on the coffee table; and a make-up mirror, hair dryer and styling accessories next to the dressing table.
What’s more, guests can book the so-called Beditation Butler, who’s on hand to help you find your zen before a good night’s sleep. It’s also possible to book “The Fresh Pantry,” an assortment of healthy snacks sourced from local London markets (think pressed juices and fresh yogurt).
Situated in a private courtyard near Green Park and Buckingham Palace, DUKES has 90 rooms including 18 suites and one Penthouse Suite. Facilities at the historic hotel include a gym, spa, Cigar Garden, martini bar, and the Great British Restaurant under the auspices of Executive Head Chef Nigel Mendham. Dukes is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
