For those who might not be aware, the month of September is National Honey Month, as declared by The National Honey Board (a USDA organization) back in 1989. In celebration of nature’s original sweetener, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in Southern California will be abuzz this September, launching an immersive beekeeping experience for guests of the resort alongside the arrival of an on property apiary.
In partnership with Ojai Valley Bee Club, the resort’s beekeeping excursion will be available daily starting September 1. The outings include an educational journey, a tour of the hives and raw local honey tasting on the Inn’s new apiary patio, overlooking a meadow of lavender and wildflowers.
At the Inn’s new Discover Ojai Center, the beekeeper will give a brief introduction on bees before guests take a scenic ride to Mistletoe Meadows. There, they will don protective beekeeping suits for a guided tour of the apiary. The excursion emphasizes the importance of bees on the eco system and concludes with a tasting of raw honeys from local artisans, which have subtle notes of lavender, sage and wildflowers, among other plants found on Ojai Valley Inn & Spa’s 220 acres. Afterwards, a selection of local, honey-infused items can be sampled at the Oak restaurant.
The Beekeeping Experience includes:
- Use of protective beekeeping suits
- Interactive discussion on bees and their role in the ecosystem
- Guided tour of Ojai Valley Inn & Spa apiary
- Local raw honey tasting
- Local honey themed parting amenities
