Planning an African adventure? Take note: Wilderness Safaris is opening a new classic camp in Botswana’s Qorokwe Concession, a vast swath of land (64,692 acres) owned by the Calitz family in the beautiful Okavango Delta. Populated by abundant wildlife, this private concession has a diverse variety of landscapes—from woodlands to floodplains—and it’s possible for guests to partake in day and night game drives and nature walks.
Qorokwe, a Wilderness Safaris Classic Camp, is slated to open in December as the newest addition to the company’s Botswana portfolio. In fact, the renowned ecotourism operator has its roots in the country, as Wilderness Safaris was founded in Botswana in 1983. Today it operates 50 luxury camps and safaris in eight African countries: Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Situated next to a lagoon, Qorokwe Camp will be 100 percent solar-powered while all water will be heated by thermodynamic geysers—thereby reducing the camp’s carbon emissions and staying true to Wilderness Safaris’ commitment to a light eco-footprint. There will be nine tented suites, including one family suite with its own pool. Built on a raised platform to enhance the views of the bushveld, the main area offers a dining area, lounge, library, bar and infinity pool. The camp was carefully constructed in an eco-friendly way to blend into the surrounding landscape; the designers also sought to create luxurious, comfortable spaces inspired by Botswana’s natural spaces.
In the official press release, Kim Nixon, Wilderness Safaris' Botswana managing director, said, “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Calitz family to reveal this exclusive new land-based camp and private concession – a highly-productive game-viewing area that has been unutilized for the past four years.”
