When travel opens up, we suspect island destinations are going to be popular. That’s why Luxury Travel Advisor has the lowdown on a couple of island hotels in Greece you need to know about.
Kalesma, set on a hilltop above Ornos Bay on Mykonos, has a planned opening of this summer — although the date remains unconfirmed. It will have 25 suites and two villas spread across five acres. The two 2,600-square-foot villas will each have an open-plan living room with a separate dining area, full kitchen and wine fridge. Tip: A private chef is available upon request. Additional amenities will include a private gym and 24/7 butler service. Guests can also book in-room spa treatments, before a full spa opens in 2021.
A dedicated concierge can direct guests to the best beaches depending upon the day’s winds. Other experiences the concierge can book include yacht charters and a personal shopper to help the fashion-conscious discover local shops.
Pere Ubu, the hotel’s restaurant, offers Cycladic specialties, with cheese and fish sourced from nearby islands. Pere Ubu will have nightly sunset celebrations, evening DJ entertainment and weekly culinary events like dinners exclusively for guests.

Cretan Malia Park, in Crete, has a focus on “slow-paced luxury” and sustainability. After a recent renovation, the resort’s modernist structures have been revamped; family heirlooms and antiques are displayed alongside works by local artisans.
Fun Fact: The hotel has replaced non-endemic plants and trees with species native to the location. Guests can tour the grounds with the head gardener to learn about these indigenous species. The hotel also has its own organic vegetable and herb gardens.
Wellbeing activities and programs include daily yoga, fitness, Pilates and meditation classes. There’s also a fully equipped gym located in the gardens. The signature spa treatment is the Minoan Culture, where the body is enveloped in healing and detoxifying Cretan herbs and finished with a back and foot massage using Greek techniques.
Events at the hotel include hands-on cooking demos and classes with the executive chef, wine tastings, olive oil tastings, live music sessions, grape stomping and Raki spirit distillation. Contact Chronis Maliotakis (chronis.maliotakis@cretanmaliapark.gr), front office manager.
