New in Nicaragua is Nekupe Sporting Resort and Retreat, which is generating a lot of buzz with the luxury travel advisor market. We think a big reason why is that it’s in the process of becoming a wellness haven. Sweet.
Located on an 1,800-acre nature reserve in Nicaragua’s Pacific countryside, Nekupe is expanding its spa offerings this year to include two treatment rooms (one single, one double), a multi-purpose room, a sauna, a reflexology path (designed to massage and stimulate acupressure points on the feet, improving the blood circulation) and Central America’s second salt room.
Locally sourced ingredients for treatments include cacao, volcanic mud and citruses. For total relaxation, opt for a massage on a hilltop with 360-degree views of the forest. Guests can enjoy twice daily yoga sessions, complimentary, with additional sessions available upon request.
Nature-lovers would love the views of the forest.
There are just eight accommodations on property so be sure to book with Lucia Silva (lsilva@nekupe.com), marketing and sales manager, well in advance. Couples should book the Junior Villa, a 700-square-foot space with a king bed, living area and bathroom with a soaking tub and shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows and an open terrace allow for views of the Mombacho Volcano. Larger groups and families should consider La Residencia de Doña Theresita, the 24,000-square-foot residential compound on top of a hill allowing for unobstructed views of the reserve. Tip: The four suites comprising La Residencia can be booked individually.
We love that each room gets its own luxury ATV to traverse the preserve, which is home to over 150 species of plants, as well as monkeys, deer, foxes, 70 species of birds and 60 species of butterfly. Or if guests choose, they can opt for the marked fitness paths.
Seen here is the Grand Suite.
Off-site activities include tours of Granada and Las Isletas with access to Doña Nena’s (owner Don Alfredo’s mother) private island, a visit to the Mombacho and Masaya Volcanoes, sandboarding in León, boat tours on Lake Managua, rum distillery tours in Chinandega and more.
Nekupe is 30 minutes from Granada and an hour from the Pacific.
