We have good news for travelers who are looking to get in touch with the land. The secluded Cabot Lodge, located on a family sheep farm in New Zealand, will begin accepting guests this November. Tour company New Zealand in Depth will feature two nights at this luxury lodge as part of a five-night tour of the area.
The lodge, located near Fiordland National Park, will offer four suites and host up to ten guests. Visitors can access the location from Queenstown through a 25-minute helicopter flight or a scenic two-hour drive. Guests can also choose to fly in on a 10-minute light aircraft ride from Te Anau Airport.
On top of farming sheep, the owners of Cabot Lodge maintain beehives, grow berries and other fresh produce and house a collection of chickens. The lodge will treat guests to a full farm-style breakfast every morning, sourced directly from the property itself. Cabot Lodge will also provide lunch hampers upon request for visitors to take with them when exploring Fiordland.
Cabot Lodge is operated by the McDonald family, on its fifth generation of sheep farmers. The property, Cathedral Peaks Station, came into the family with Cam and Wendy McDonald. Their youngest daughter, Breidi, returned to the farm in 2018 with her husband Brad. Besides creating Cabot Lodge, the couple have introduced beehives and berry cultivars to the farm.
