The Group Barrière continues its impressive portfolio-wide investment (starting in 2013, more than 210 million euros has been injected to renovate its French hotels). After big makeovers for the Deauville hotels and the Paris flagship on the Champs-Elysées, the latest property to receive some TLC is the Hotel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion Cannes. Situated in the city center, between the iconic Boulevard de la Croisette and the Rue d’Antibes, the 4-star hotel has a storied history dating back to the late 19th century when tourism on the French Rivera started to develop for the European aristocracy. In Cannes, the Group Barrière also operates the Majestic.
Hotel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion Cannes closed on December 15, 2017 for the refurbishment; Barrière took advantage of the seasonal winter closure to give the hotel a makeover. Designer Alexandre Danan is waving his wand over the first two floors, focusing on the bar, lobby, and nine meeting rooms. The Paris-based designer has completely revamped the spaces in an elegant contemporary style with materials like wood and white marble. The idea was to bring down the walls and create an open, friendly vibe, also reflected by the hotel staff. What’s more, the façade will also get a new look, with large swaths of American walnut wood embellishing it.
Dominique Desseigne, chief executive officer of the Groupe Lucien Barrière, said, “We are continuing to renovate our establishments to better meet the needs of our customers. When the Hotel Barrière Le Gray d’Albion is unveiled in the spring, it will be stylishly open and stream-lined, friendly and warm.”
The hotel reopens on March 9, 2018.
