Nobu Hospitality is heading to Puerto Rico for the first time, with a 50-room Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan scheduled to open in 2028.

The property will put a Nobu restaurant and bar at street level and a lounge and bar on the roof. Nobu said the design will draw on San Juan's heritage alongside the brand's contemporary look, and that service will follow the Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi.

“Puerto Rico has long been one of the Caribbean's most compelling destinations, celebrated for its rich history, vibrant culture, and exceptional hospitality,” Nobu Hospitality CEO Trevor Horwell said in prepared remarks. “Bringing the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant to San Juan allows us to become part of one of the region's most storied neighborhoods while introducing our distinctive approach to hospitality in a destination that continues to attract discerning travelers from around the world.”

Nobu is working on the project with KTT, whose managing partner, Joakim Lehmkuhl, described the hotel as an investment in the city.

“Few places in the Caribbean combine culture, history, and energy the way San Juan does,” Lehmkuhl said. “Nobu saw the same thing, and that shared understanding is what makes this work.”

Nobu has not disclosed the hotel's exact location, room rates, or an opening date beyond 2028.
