A new urban resort has debuted in Cambodia’s capital—the first in Southeast Asia for Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. The 39-story Vattanac Capital Tower is the tallest building in the city (more than 600 feet), and the Rosewood Phnom Penh occupies the top 14 floors of the tower. From this vantage point, guests are privy to 360 degree panoramic views of the urban cityscape.
The hotel interiors—by Melbourne’s BAR Studio, and the two restaurants by Tokyo-based Bond Design Studio—showcase a contemporary mix of Khmer architectural details, French colonial style and Cambodian crafts.
Designed to resemble luxurious apartments, the 175 guestrooms (including 37 suites) are some of the biggest in town. Even the smallest room category starts at 50 square meters (538 square feet). The largest? The exclusive Norodom House (2,422 square feet) has a stocked private bar, Frette 600-thread-count linens, a dining room and butler service.
The sky bar, SORA—translated as “sky” from Japanese—is already proving to be a city hot spot. Located on a cantilevered terrace on level 37, SORA is the highest bar in Phnom Penh, and pairs whiskey cocktails and tapas with unbeatable views. Other F&B outlets include the Brasserie Louis for French comfort food and Cambodian classics, the Living Room for relaxed, all-day dining, and Iza for Japanese izakaya-style fare.
Other facilities include Sense, A Rosewood Spa; a 24-hour fitness center; a 60-foot indoor swimming pool; and meeting rooms. This is the 22nd property for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts; there are currently 18 new hotels under development around the world.
