The Elewana Collection has unveiled new luxury lodgings in the Loisaba Conservancy, and it promises a different kind of bespoke safari experience in Kenya’s northern Laikipia County. An important corridor for Kenya’s second largest population of elephants, Loisaba was purchased by the Loisaba Community Trust in 2015. The 56,000-acre conservancy supports high concentrations of wildlife like Grevy’s zebra, wild dog, leopard and cheetah. In fact, San Diego Zoo Global remote cameras recently spotted a black panther mother and cubs— a rare finding that helps researchers in Loisaba understand denning habitats in the area.
As we reported last year, the Elewana Collection already operates the Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp, a popular safari camp with clifftop views all the way to Mount Kenya, and the Elewana Loisaba Star Beds, where you can sleep under the stars in a custom, netted bed on wheels. The opening of Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs brings the total number of camps to three in the Loisaba Conservancy. Perched on an escarpment with panoramic views of northern Kenya, the Lodo Springs property offers a highly personalized experience with every tent assigned an Elewana Guest Ambassador to serve guests’ needs. What’s more, guests are assigned a dedicated safari vehicle, driver and Elewana field guide for the duration of their stay.
Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs was designed by Chris Payne and Jan Allen, while Jo Silvester oversaw the landscape design. There are eight tented rooms, decorated with antiques and repurposed vintage decor, restored by hand in Kenya. Think 17th century French walnut wardrobes, midcentury American bar stools, and upcycled cedar fence posts as paneling. In addition to game drives, the recreational activities include bush walks, horse and camel riding, and work-outs on the Loisaba Running & Trekking Track.
The launch of Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs expands the Elewana portfolio to a total of 16 luxury camps, lodges and boutique beach hotels in Tanzania, Zanzibar and Kenya. Named for the Swahili word meaning “harmony,” the Elewana Collection aims to offer guests unique accommodation in iconic locations, while focusing on conservation.
