Almae Collection has announced the opening of La Nauve Hôtel & Jardin in France’s Cognac region. The boutique hotel has just 12 rooms, a fine-dining restaurant, cognac bar and library, while the brasserie and swimming pool can be found in the property’s 12-acre garden.
The former distillery, a belle époque mansion, was completely refreshed during a four-year transformation, with just the exterior and facade remaining the same. The grand staircase takes center stage in the entrance hall, lit by chandeliers made exclusively for the property in Murano, including the Hexagone, which hangs above the bar. Another interesting space is the Paradis, a small hidden room which acts as a cellar, where guests can enjoy brandies pre- or post-dinner. The 12 rooms, including one Junior Suite, all have delicate furnishings and unique touches such as beds and headboards made using roots of local sequoia trees.
The property’s garden is home to a century-old sequoia tree, a small canal, fruit trees, a vegetable garden, pool and rose bushes. The garden leads down to the Charente River, where guests can enjoy the use of a private boat and canoes. The hotel also provides e-bikes to those wanting to explore the area further, beyond the grounds of the mansion.
The main mansion houses an intimate fine-dining restaurant, Notes, which highlights a fresh, seasonal menu. The restored distillery building is home to Brasserie des Flâneurs, serving dishes inspired by Chef Anthony Carballo’s childhood memories. Food is served in the garden during summer, while the fireplaces lend a cozy atmosphere to the venue in winter.
Guests can sample up to 70 bottles of cognac, or choose from a custom cognac cocktail created by Antoine, the bar manager. Guests can visit famed producers such as Hennessy, Rémy Martin and Martell, or journey to Delamain for an exclusive visit to the cellars and a dining experience. They can also pop into town via boat to explore Old Cognac or even try the Otard tour, where they can visit the old Chateau de Cognac.
