Now Open: Masiya’s Camp at Royal Malewane

The Royal Portfolio has announced the opening of Masiya’s Camp, the latest addition to Royal Malewane in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park. Consisting of just six tents, Masiya’s Camp at Royal Malewane combines luxury with the untamed beauty of the African wilderness.

Named after the late Wilson Masiya, Royal Malewane’s very first Master Tracker and a man of immense courage and wisdom, this tented sanctuary is a tribute to his special bond with the African wilderness and its incredible wildlife.

Six canvas-draped tented suites offer spacious interior and exterior lounge areas with floor-to-ceiling views. Each suite features a unique theme as well as king-sized beds, a private wooden deck with a heated plunge pool, dining space, outdoor lounge, an indoor-outdoor shower and a private sala providing a space for contemplation.

The tented suites feature custom Indian and East African doors, Persian rugs, bespoke furniture and vintage-inspired patterns and modern amenities. Additional features include a mini bar, hidden popup television with streaming services, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, underfloor heating and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Comfortable lounge spaces with fireplaces and outdoor decks are ideal for relaxation before or after a meal and, as darkness falls, the ancient ritual of gathering around a crackling fire beneath a canopy of stars reconnects guests with the beauty of nature.

Masiya’s Camp at Royal Malewane offers a range of public spaces including a tented dining area with vibrant interiors, a pizza oven and an outdoor braai (barbecue) cooking station; a lounge tent area; a bar located between the communal lounge and dining area offers drinks, light bites and 360-degree views; a central heated pool with loungers; and a boutique with curated items for sale, handpicked by founder Liz Biden.

Masiya’s Camp at Royal Malewane offers personalized dining experiences that make the most of the wild surroundings. Guests can enjoy an à la carte fine dining menu or wood-fired pizzas and a traditional braai on a lantern-lit outdoor deck overlooking the African bush. They can also dine on their private decks in seclusion. Kosher dining can be arranged on request.

The surrounding landscape provides ample opportunity for exploration. Game drives, led by some of Africa’s most experienced guides, offer a chance to witness the region’s diverse wildlife at both dawn and dusk. Bush walks provide an immersive journey where each step reveals the sights and sounds of nature. Building on this intimate connection with the wilderness, The Royal Malewane Conservation and Research Centre offers a gateway to discover conservation in action, while helicopter patrol flights paired with Anti-Poaching Dog Unit demonstrations add an element of adventure.

The camp welcomes families, and is suitable for children aged 10 and above. Rates include accommodation, all meals and snacks, wireless internet, a fully stocked mini-bar, South African premium wines and beverages (excluding champagne), all coffees and specialty teas, transfers to and from the Royal Malewane Airstrip, laundry service, and two game drives daily along with bush walks. Additional charges apply for the Conservation and Community Levy, spa treatments, transfers to and from the reserve, private game drive vehicle, boutique purchases, telephone calls, kosher meals and photographic equipment.
