It’s been years in the making, and now the highly anticipated Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui has officially opened its doors in Thailand’s tourism hot spot of Koh Samui. The country’s third largest island is known for its white sandy beaches edged by the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Thailand. The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui is a partnership between Marriott International and YTL Hotels; the joint portfolio comprises nine properties across Asia-Pacific and Europe. In Thailand, YTL Hotels also operates The Surin Phuket, a member of Design Hotels.
A stellar feature at YTL Hotels is the spa village concept; see our reviews of The Muse Saint-Tropez and the Gainsborough Bath Spa. As we’ve previously reported, the spa village “offers a mélange of the world’s top spa therapies integrated with local healing practices.” And these spas “take personalization to another level.” Keeping in line with this concept, the Spa Village Koh Samui offers a pre-spa ritual inspired by the Songkran festival (it’s all about the “joyful throwing of water”). Encompassing more than 40,000 square feet, the spa has eight treatment suites, three massage pavilions, a yoga pavilion, a health bar, and a cabana-flanked swimming pool.
Resort facilities include a beachside pool, two beaches, a water sports center, two tennis courts, the Ritz Kids program, and a variety of culinary concepts. There’s also a wedding pavilion called Sala Thai, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
