Floating between India and Thailand in the turquoise Bay of Bengal, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are one of those dreamy tropical destinations talked about in hushed whispers by enamored travelers. Only a handful of the 572 remote islands are open to tourists. It’s here in this archipelago—surrounded by lush jungle, mangrove forests, white sandy beaches, and coral reefs—that Taj Hotels will be opening a luxury hotel in autumn 2017.
One of the only major hotel brands in the islands, Taj Exotic Resort and Spa, Andamans will be situated on a 30-acre expanse of Radhanagar beach on Havelock Island. There will be 75 villas inspired by the local tribal huts of the Jarawa indigenous people. Top digs: The 743 square-meter (8,000 square feet) presidential villa, which comes complete with a personal butler and its own private beach.
Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans will have a signature Jiva Spa, showcasing Indian therapies and beauty rituals plus holistic experiences utilizing natural products. The F&B outlets will include Global Grills at Turtle House and The Settlers, a restaurant “inspired by the settlers who’ve made the Andaman Islands their home.” In-room and private dining experiences will also be available. Beyond the beach, the resort will offer access to a wide range of water sports like kayaking through the mangroves and snorkeling/ scuba diving the famous reefs.
Other Taj Exotica branded resorts are located in beach locations like Goa and the Maldives. Access to Havelock Island is via boat and seaplane from Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
