Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, México is accepting reservations ahead of its opening in late 2022. The resort will offer 157 accommodations, many of which have private pools. It will also have four restaurants and bars, a golf course, and a spa and wellness experience.
A defining characteristic of the resort is that just 2 percent of the surrounding nature reserve will be developed. The Discovery Centre is a starting point to engaging in the natural cycles of the region from ocean to jungle across the reserve. The resort’s on-site team of biologists will introduce guests to the area’s biodiversity, which includes over 70 endemic species of wildlife, and hundreds of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles found throughout the reserve that stretches over 3,000 acres.
The resort is also home to Rancho Ortega is a 35-acre working farm, led by Nicolás Piatti, the culinary director. It serves as a study center for rare species, sustainable farming and creative culinary exploration. According to Piatti, there are a flock of egg-producing chickens and 17 varieties of fruit trees, as well as additional produce growing on the farm. More than 8,500 agave azul plants are also being cultivated at the resort in collaboration with Mexico’s Tequila Regulatory Council.
Each of the restaurants at the resort is an individual concept inspired by its surroundings, including Coyul, where Mexican chef Elena Reygadas uses local produce to create modern Mexican cuisine. At Sal, just steps from the Pacific Ocean, the freshest seafood is served along with artisanal cocktails. Nacho is a casual poolside taqueria featuring home-style Mexican favorites.
Highlights of the spa experience at Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo include a temazcal ceremony, a pre-Hispanic tradition that brings together herbs and rituals to encourage personal reflection, contemplation and re-connection. Other facilities include a fitness center, three pools in addition to those found in many of the resort’s accommodations, besides three beaches and several coves.
Golfers can make use of the 18-hole, par 72 El Tamarindo course carved into the natural landscape. A favorite since 1995, the course is now part of Four Seasons and will offer course-side restaurant Nueve and a pro shop. The resort also has an Escondite teen center, besides the fully supervised Carmelo program, featuring activities for children between the ages of five to 12.
Good to know: Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo has a range of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a private beach and the terraced Melaque Lawn inspired by juego de pelota, an ancient Mayan ball game, complete with full outdoor kitchen.
The resort in Jalisco is located between the towns of La Manzanilla and Barra de Navidad, 35 minutes by car from Manzanillo-Costalegre International Airport (ZLO). Direct flights are available from Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Calgary and Mexico City, with connections available throughout North America and beyond. The airport also accommodates a limited number of private aircraft. The resort’s in-house “Tamarindo Experience Experts” are at hand to help guests with airport transfers, rental cars or arrivals by sea.
