Palazzo di Varignana has unveiled its new collection of luxury villas. Ranging in size from four to six bedrooms, a total of six villas are open for bookings this year. Located in the Bolognese hills, the 850-acre heritage estate is enveloped by botanical landscaped gardens, farmland, vineyards and olive trees. It is a 30-minute drive from Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy.
The property’s villas are a result of the recovery of ancient country farmhouses which have been revitalized to offer privacy and relaxation for guests. The villas include the four-bedroom Villa Rio Rosso, five-bedroom Villa Amagioia, five-bedroom Villa Santa Maria Maddalena with its own restored medieval chapel five-bedroom Villa Tamburina, six-bedroom Villa Pergola and six-bedroom Villa Colombara.
Each villa has its own look and feel, with designs varying from classic to contemporary, with custom-made furnishings by Italian artisans. Well-suited for families, friends and larger groups, each villa offers a fully equipped kitchen allowing many dining options for guests, whether preparing meals in-villa or arranging for a private chef, in addition to dining in one of the restaurants at the resort. Landscaped gardens surround the villas, while many offer private infinity pools, jacuzzis and solariums. Good to know: Palazzo di Varignana and its villas are open all year round.
Villas can be booked via two options, either with daily breakfast at the resort and a three-hour entrance to the traditional Varsana SPA path or the “Villa Only” option, which ensures absolute privacy for guests.
The resort also has 150 guestrooms and suites, as well as the 12-room Oliveto sul Lago Country House, which can be booked individually or for groups. Guests have access to the 43,000-square-foot Varsana SPA, which has seven swimming pools (indoor and outdoor). Wellness facilities include new wellness rooms Cava d’Oro Bianco and Grotta dei Badlands, Moroccan Hammam, Japanese Suntory, Finnish sauna, Mediterranean sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, music therapy pool, steam bath, ice waterfall, Kneipp circuit and a relaxation room with a herbal tea corner. Along with traditional spa programs and treatments, the property recently boosted its wellness offering with a new Medical Center, which offers a range of personalized treatments. The wellness-themed Vital Suites are often chosen by those visiting the resort just for the spa.
Over 240 acres of wellness trails on-site allow guests to explore the estate by bike or foot and wellness experts are on hand to encourage Nordic walking. Activities also include tennis, padel and squash courts as well as a driving range and putting green.
Guests can choose from four restaurants offering a farm-to-table concept: Il Grifone, Trattoria Le Marzoline, Aurevo and Treno Reale. The farm was founded in 2015 and following the restoration of 370 acres of ancient varieties of native olive trees, Palazzo di Varignana produces five varieties of extra-virgin olive oils. There are over 100 acres of vineyards resulting in the property’s Sangiovese Superiore DOC, 32,292 square feet of vegetable gardens and an orchard, besides an original and rare crop of saffron. The property offers branded products including jams, fruit juices, flavored salts and more.
