Palazzo di Varignana, an Italian wellness resort in the hills outside Bologna, has introduced a new “Stress Release” retreat, developed by the resort’s scientific director, Dr. Annamaria Acquaviva. Designed to address chronic stress, burnout and fatigue, the program joins the resort’s existing range of health-focused retreats. It draws on the integrated “Acquaviva Method” developed by the dietitian, pharmacist and expert in mindfulness and longevity strategies.
With an emphasis on managing excess cortisol, also known as the “stress hormone,” the “Stress Release” retreat is available as a three- or seven-night stay, and begins with a personal consultation with Dr. Acquaviva. The analysis includes bioimpedance assessment that evaluates body composition, oxidative stress, bone density, general stress level, psychophysical performance and chronotype to create a personalized health identity card that guides the retreat experience.
Retreat itineraries are designed to restore mental clarity, sleep quality and physical energy through a blend of wellness rituals, relaxation techniques, masterclasses and immersive experiences in nature. Days include guided experiences such as “Nature Therapy” in the property’s Ornamental Gardens, relaxation sessions enhanced by binaural sound waves, yoga, vineyard walks and breath-focused movement to release muscle tension and recalibrate the nervous system. With daily access to the 43,055-square-foot Varsana Spa, guests enjoy targeted treatments including a selection of massages, alongside its pools, saunas, steam baths and sensory showers. The seven-night program also includes access to the Cava D’Oro Bianco salt cave, designed to help participants sleep better.
Meals are served at the newly opened Ginkgo Longevity Restaurant and follow Dr. Acquaviva’s anti-inflammatory “Longevity Menu,” which uses strategic food combinations to reduce stress-induced inflammation, restore hormonal balance and promote cognitive and physical recovery. Additionally, guests will receive a Sleep Kit, which includes calming herbal teas, a beauty pillow and a sleep mask to enhance nighttime rest.
The retreat is built around the five pillars of the Acquaviva Method: functional nutrition, inner harmony, mindful movement, quality sleep and rest, and targeted nutritional and cosmetic supplementation. Guests are guided in breaking reactive patterns through mindfulness, breathing practices, gratitude exercises and exposure to art. Physical activity is integrated thoughtfully, with both solo and group sessions, including postural training and nature walks to release endorphins and improve energy flow. Supplementation plays a key role as well, with a range of products and treatments selected to reduce oxidative stress and promote cellular regeneration—many using ingredients from the resort’s own organic farm.
At the end of the retreat, participants receive a personalized dossier from Dr. Acquaviva with long-term recommendations and lifestyle guidance to sustain their results. A follow-up consultation is scheduled in the months after the stay to help guests continue their progress and embed the method into their daily lives.
