Park Hyatt Hotel Planned for Kyoto

After Mallorca, there are a few hotels in the pipeline for the upscale Park Hyatt brand: Bangkok (early 2017) and St Kitts (now slated for late spring 2017). But that’s not all. Word on the street is that a contract has been signed between Hyatt and the Takenaka Corporation for a Park Hyatt in Kyoto with construction expected to start soon.

This is a prime piece of real estate in Japan’s ancient imperial capital, just a stroll from the Kiyomizu-dera Temple and UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Construction Index notes that the hotel will be built as a low-rise complex in respect to the surrounding environment, especially as there are important historic sites on the property including a teahouse that’s 360 years old. The existing Sanso Kyoyamato restaurant—a five-generation family business—will also continue to operate.

Tony Chi & Associates will be responsible for the interior design of the hotel, which has a targeted opening date of 2019. The Park Hyatt portfolio is currently comprised of 39 hotels in diverse locations around the world: from Abu Dhabi to Beaver Creek.
