The upcoming years are going to be busy for Pebble Beach Resorts. In preparation for the 2018 U.S. Amateur and 2019 U.S. Open championships, as well as the celebration of the resort’s 100th anniversary in 2019, the resort is undergoing a complete renovation.
The renovations will include makeovers to all 454 existing guestrooms at The Lodge, The Inn at Spanish Bay and Casa Palmero, restorations to Pebble Beach Golf Links, and the opening of Fairway One at The Lodge, which is slated for August.
“We will be celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2019, and we want to get all of this completed in time to celebrate,” David Stivers, executive vice president of Pebble Beach Company, said.
Fairway One will add 38 guestrooms, split between three two-story buildings and two four-bedroom golf cottages on the first fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. After completion, The Lodge will have 199 rooms.
The two Fairway One Cottages will have a 1,000-square-foot living room, two king bedrooms, two queen/queen bedrooms, and an outdoor terrace with fire pit. Each living room will boast 17-foot-high wood-beam ceilings, rich wood millwork, and a wood-burning floor-to-ceiling stacked stone fireplace. They will also each have two 55-inch HDTVs, a wet bar, and a dining area.
The cottages are well suited for “buddy vacations,” business trips, and a family vacation, according to Stivers. Note: For families looking for more than just golfing, the Monterey Peninsula has 20 miles of hiking trails in the Del Monte Forest alone, the Monterey Aquarium, Point Lobos, Big Sur, and plenty of wine tasting (for older children).
The 30 Fairway One guestrooms will be located behind the cottages—they will have large windows, terraces, and an open floor plan.
Good to know: Pebble Beach is accepting reservations for the cottages and guestrooms.
The Fairway One complex will also include a new meeting facility. It will have several meeting and event space options but the centerpiece will be the 2,500-square-foot Fairway One Meeting Room with a capacity of 225, and floor-to-ceiling views of the first fairway. Other spaces will include the 700-square-foot Fairway One Board Room, 1,000-square-foot Fairway One Living Room and 2,250-square-foot Fairway One Terrace Patio.
The Lodge’s renovations will include: a 30-percent expansion of window walls in all oceanfront rooms; oceanfront patios and decks are to be doubled in size; and new furnishings and accessories, bathroom upgrades, a signature fireplace wall and the addition of air conditioning to the guestrooms. Among the technology upgrades are 55-inch HDTVs, new lighting, energy management systems, and state-of-the-art door locks. Building exteriors, too, are receiving a fresh new look enhanced by wood, stone and stucco.
Guest rooms at The Inn at Spanish Bay, which has 269 rooms, will have enhanced and reconfigured window walls, as well as new furniture and accessories, a new built-in desk and minibar space, updated marble fireplace, air conditioning and state-of-the-art technology. Bathrooms will be updated with new fixtures and lighting. The renovations started in fall and will continue throughout the year in small portions.
All of Casa Palmero’s 24 guest rooms will receive an interior makeover and technology upgrades next winter.
Although they haven’t determined what a potential anniversary package might include, Stivers mentioned that he and his marketing team are in the process of putting together ideas.
Their goal, however, is to have several different events: one for the guests, employees, and the community.
“That whole year for us is going to be a big celebration,” Stivers said.
