Is Portugal on your travel wish list? We’ll let you in on a little secret: Just a 75-mile drive south of Lisbon, Comporta is a hush-hush hangout for the jetset crowd. It has a picturesque village, nature reserve and sandy beach stretching on to infinity. (This destination is a closely guarded secret among the Lisbon elite and international celebrities like Christian Louboutin.) It’s here where a buzzworthy new wellness retreat and sustainability project will debut on March 15. The Quinta da Comporta - Wellness Retreat is the brainchild of famous Portuguese architect, Miguel Câncio Martins. Situated in Comporta’s village, the property extends over 42 acres of umbrella pines, cork trees and rice fields.
There will be 65 rooms channeling a beach hut vibe (think whitewashed walls, rustic furniture and light-colored woods). We like the sound of the rooftop suites with balconies and fireplaces. Standalone pool villas will also be available for the ultimate in exclusivity and privacy.
Take in views of the surrounding rice fields from the heated infinity pool or relax in the hammam in the Oryza Spa, where rice is used as the key ingredient for wellness therapies and treatments. Yoga, meditation and Pilates classes will also be offered. The hotel’s Bio Garden will provide the organic produce for the restaurant. Pick your poison from the cocktail bar or wine cellar. Last but not least: The in-house cinema lounge will be a hotel highlight.
Note: The hotel has shuttle service to Carvalhal Beach, famous for its surf break. Quinta Da Comporta - Wellness Retreat is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
